The BUAFL Chapionship game took place on Sunday 9th April at the John Charles Stadium in Leeds. Birmingham, who beat my Hertfordshire team the previous week in the semi-final, took on the Portsmouth Destroyers.

Birmingham were the National Champions the two previous years running & were going for their 4th championship. Having been beaten just once in the last two years, the task for Portsmouth was expected to be a hard one. The game ended up in a tight battle with the Destroyers leading by a score. The Lions managed a last quarter TD to bring them within 1 point, rather than opt for the equalising 1 pt kick, they went for 2 points to win the game, but failed. The Destroyers held them off for the rest of the game running out 20 - 19 winners.
